Assisted Living Opportunity!!!

Greetings Friends!

Image result for Christmas pianoI would like to organize a visit to a local assisted living home for students to perform Christmas carols.  It is always a blessing to share the music of the season (any season) with others, but especially those who may not be able to get out and enjoy Christmas concerts and festivities!!  Please let me know if your student(s) would like to join us and if they play piano or a portable instrument, i.e. violin. It would also be helpful in planning if I knew if morning, afternoon or evening works best for your family!  Also, how many carols they would like to perform and whether the week before or the week after Christmas is works better.

The location would most likely be  Mulberry Gardens Assisted Living, 395 S Main St, Munroe Falls

Beethoven - Cleveland Orchestra

Greetings Friends!

The Cleveland Orchestra is offering a wonderful concert for students.  We invite you to join us this fantastic program!

"This first-ever, multi-media Cleveland Orchestra Education Concert, explores a unique intersection between mythology and music, examining the connection between Prometheus, a Titan of Greek Mythology, and Beethoven, a titan of classical music. Bound in spirit by their creativity, rebellious nature, and a deep love of humankind, Beethoven and Prometheus both overcame great obstacles and used their individual gifts to create a better world. These concerts will feature movements from some of Beethoven’s most important symphonies accompanied by the creative output (visual art, dance, language arts and more) of students from the Cleveland School of the Arts (projected on a large screen behind the Orchestra) who were deeply engaged with Orchestra musicians last spring in an interdisciplinary “Prometheus Project” curriculum."

Music Opportunity for Next Year!

Greetings Homeschoolers!

Image result for piano keyboard beautifulPassing along some great information :)  I know many of you enjoy outreach and blessing others as we do.  It seems each year a dear friend reminds me about Piano-a-thon just before her boys are performing and then I forget until the following year.  I shared this opportunity with some of you and the response was incredible so I thought I would post for all.  Thank you so much to those who contacted me, it was wonderful to hear all who already participate in this event and those that are hoping to next year!!

The lady who organizes Piano-a-thon told me that it began as a one day event and has GROWN to a full week with so many willing to share their time and talents!!!  With Piano-a-thon lasting a week, there are many time slots she needs to fill and working with the piano teachers makes her job that much easier, I LOVE her heart!!!  She had offered a few time slots we could have slid into, but timing was not right.  Praying we will be able to participate next year?

Piano-a-thon is held at the Akron Children's hospital; Steinway brings in a grand piano for the students to perform on.  If your students have not performed on a Steinway, all I can say is it is the difference between good soil and clay?

Here is the website for your piano teacher to make arrangements:  http://2017pianoathon.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1171524

Music therapy is an integral part of the Expressive Therapy Center that is part of the Palliative Care Program. The program is under the direction of Dr. Sarah Friebert, with Sarah Gaither as the Music Therapy Coordinator. Music is such a healing tool for all ages, even NICU babies, and they do a remarkable job. We hope to allow them to do even more. We could not have asked for a more appropriate and deserving recipient."

"Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music;
5make music to the LORD with the harp"  Psalm 98:4-5

What a blessing to help the least of His through our children's love of music!!!  We know many people who work at Akron Children's Hospital and the work they do is incredible.  If you think your piano teacher would be interested in this fundraiser, please have them put this on their calendar for next year!!!

"Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe,
5praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals."  Psalm 150:3-5

Image result for music to share with othersThe lady who runs the event, said it is very much like a recital only a little more casual.  Of course doctors, nurses and patients would be passing through and stopping to listen, but they also set up chairs for people to sit and enjoy, which is what music is meant for us to do.  Stop and listen with our hearts and minds.

To us, music is to be shared with others and so we would like to encourage you to consider for next year!!!  Keep being a blessing friends, we love YOU :)

Joyfully yours,

Kim

Beyond Blessings - Special Needs!!!

Greetings Homeschooling Friends,

Wow, just coming off our "Night to Shine" event (Tim Tebow).  It was so amazing again this year!  Cuyahoga Valley Church was able to accommodate 250 guests and their caregivers/parents.  The night seemed to fly by.  We helped with the special needs meals, each made to the guest's dietary restrictions.  What a blessing to serve along with 600 other volunteers!!!  With that being said, I would like to share a ministry our church has for individuals with Special Needs:

Happy Thanksgiving, Healthy Eating!!!

During our lessons this week, we learned about healthy eating.  Most people are eating more healthy these days, but I am going to share something that many may not have been considered?  Healthy eating is more than what you eat.  Isn't it fun to share a meal with a friend?  When we enjoy a meal with others, we usually eat more slowly and avoid overeating.  There are so many benefits to sharing a meal with others!

When was the last time you invited someone to join your family?  Over a meal so much is shared, food breaks down barriers and draws others closer. Our family considers others with their allergies and dietary restrictions.  Many times guests are surprised and joyful about our consideration of their family.

Doesn't it make our hearts glad when we eat a meal with a friend?  It can be friends we see on a regular basis, but what a blessing it is to invite someone we normally may not consider and take the time to get to know them?  Maybe it is sharing a meal with a widow, orphan or college student away from home?

When the Bible talks about "breaking bread" it is referring to more than just communion.  It also means eating a meal.  God did not intend for us to "gobble" our food down, or eat it on the run to something more important.  Jesus used meals to teach and build relationships.  We rejoice in building relationships with others and food is a wonderful instrument!

"Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.”  Matthew 26:26-29

I encourage you to invite someone new to a meal and let me know how the conversation and fellowship was :)  Maybe it is a neighbor, another homeschool family, a work acquaintance?  I enjoy a good story and seeing people make new friendships!!!

"And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,"  Acts 2:46

Image result for breaking breadThis Thanksgiving consider opening your hearts and your homes :)  We do not like to see others spending holidays alone, keep being a blessing as you are a blessing to our family.  Thank you for being a part of my blog, your fellowship on our field trips and for your friendship.  Blessed Thanksgiving wishes to your family from ours!!!
