Walking in Their Moccasins

Please join us for this great outdoor class/workshop learning about the Whittlesey American Indians!!!

Walking in Their Moccasins: A rare opportunity for students to learn about the Native Americans of the Lake Erie shoreline, the Whittlesey Focus. Students
will learn about the first residents that lived in Lake County before settlers arrived from the East. Students will compare artifacts found at local digs to learn about major histori- cal time periods and participate in an archaeological dig. Outdoors is our replica Whittle- sey Focus Village. Students will examine construction of wigwams and long houses. They will make clay pots using Lake Erie clay, grind corn, plant a garden and make an arrowhead necklace. They will also have an opportunity to see how the primitive people used the technology of the “atlatl” to improve their spear throwing technique.
