The Gift

Greetings All!

Praying you are enjoying the Christmas season!  I cannot believe it is December already?  Where did the year go?  We have been enjoying the Advent season with scripture readings each day along with a treat for the kids.  Also we have a nice Christmas book collection which we read 2-3 books a day.  They are so wonderful from the Christmas story to books about Christmas carols and their history and so on.....of course Christmas music and some Christmas videos!

We are thinking about God's Gift to us each day, His One and Only begotten Son, Jesus!  How will you be celebrating Him?  How will you be gifting?  We enjoy gifts but more importantly we enjoy giving!  I find we give all year long by my husband's comment about baked goods.  I was getting ready to prepare a dessert for a function our family was attending when he said when will you make something for us.  That got me to thinking yes, I have done a ton of baking - pumpkin bread, zucchini bread, etc, but my family was not receiving the first.  So I immediately began baking something special for them.  It was fabulous and they loved it!  So even though we give, we also need to remember that Jesus and our families are important.

There are others who do so much for us that we also need to keep in out thoughts, prayers and gifting though out the season:

Police and firefighters
Postal carriers
Teachers and church servants

Also, we think about how to reach out to others that are in and out of our lives, maybe homeschool families, neighbors, etc.  How can we include them or send an invitation?  Many times we have good intentions, "we'll have to have you over", but then do not follow through.  Sometimes we need to be intentional?  Let's not lose sight of the importance of CHRISTmas.  It is so easy to get caught up going here and there, seeing lights and decorations, baking, but without Him in the center, what are we really doing?

It is a blessing to our family to be able to bless others, not with expensive gifts but with what is important to them.  Friends that you have taken the time to get to know it will be easy.  Others maybe this is a blessed opportunity to get to know them?  Invite them for a playdate or dinner.    We have invited many and usually the answer is "yes"!  If you have been invited, maybe it is your turn to invite?  Everyone loves an invitation and with the festive decorations, cookies already baked and people taking time off it is the perfect opportunity!!

Some of our favorite Christmas activities are visiting nursing homes - many do not receive visitors, attending a LIVE nativity and spending special moments with friends and family!

May this CHRISTmas find you and your family healthy and wealthy in God's grace and blessings!

"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."  Luke 2:11

  1. Thinking of you during this Christ filled season and praying your Christmas will be blessed!!! Hoping this post will find you reflecting on the past year and those who have made things possible, easy and memorable :) Again this year, we have made many batches of cookies and will be blessing others, hubby will be able to enjoy his selection as well. Planning on a nice little gift basket for our postman, who hand delivers our mail to our front door, joyfully! We give thanks to God for all He does for us and those He has put into our lives. We look forward to 2016 and blessed times with you and your family as well! "Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel, Shall come to thee, O Israel."

  2. Making our list and checking it twice brings to mind what I had heard on The Fish when it comes to appreciating those whose jobs go unrecognized and probably under appreciated.....the trash collectors. It it is easy to give thanks to those who do nice things for us and we see daily or weekly? Yes, I have failed to even consider the trash collectors in the past, probably because we do not like to think of those jobs whose jobs are unpleasant. This year they are at the top of our list!!! Giving appreciation to those who go unnoticed, there lies the true Spirit of giving! Yes, the trash collectors truly are a blessing :)
