People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When we figure out which then we will know how to care for each person. If it is for a reason, is it for them to help us or for us to help them? I look at each person as how can I be a blessing to them?
I was talking to a mom this past week about friendships! She was saying how her kids are becoming more independent with their friends and she was wanting to maintain the friends she has. Some express a desire for friends that live closer to them. Thinking about our situation and friendships. We do not put a distance zone on our friendships. Good, close true friends are hard to find and we try to nurture those relationships.
I am old school and really enjoy talking with friends on the phone to see how they are doing and appreciate when they return my messages with a returned phone call or call out of the blue to check on us :) A phone call is really the best gift you can give to anyone! When you can talk to a friend and never run out of things to talk about, that is a friendship to be cherished. Words are so powerful and can be misconstrued in emails, you hear it happening more times than one would think? What can it say to a friend when a phone call is returned with an email?
Who doesn't like to open the mail or email or receive a phone call that says "You're Invited"? We all want to feel included, part of a group (no man is an island), no one likes to be left out or feel like they have been abandoned? Everyone needs compassion and sensitivity. We LOVE inviting others!!!! It does not matter if it is a simple chess game, a hike or a tea party. We try to include everyone, even birthday parties whether the kids have male or female friends, all are welcome :) It is a blessing to celebrate others, just recently one of my friends turned the big 6-0 and to be included in her celebration was a blessing, she is such a sweet friend! Celebrating each other and each other's children is a blessing!!!! When you make time for someone it really brightens their day, lifting them up :)
FRIENDS WHO MOVE
Sometimes friends move, that does not mean the friendship ends. We have friends out of state and though we do not see them as often as we did we still celebrate them, birthday cards, visiting, etc. I love being able to mail them and cherish our phone conversations between everyday life!
** We are unashamed to tell our friends we LOVE them....we are blessed by those who agree :)
When we meet someone, we do not know how long they will be in our lives. Not every friendship is meant to last a lifetime, some are only for a reason or a season. You never know what God's plans are or how long you will call someone "friend". Over the years I have learned that friends come and go, and life goes on. We make new friends, they have come and some have gone, it's the ones that remain that create that special place in the heart.
Friends are a gift from God, and only with the grace of God, mercy and forgiveness that friendships grow and prosper. Just like a marriage it requires work, sometimes one supports the other and then the roles switch when needed. I find the friends who generally stay are the ones who fellowship on a regular basis, it is so easy to drift apart if both do not make an effort?
Sometimes when a friend gets married or has children the dynamics of a friendship changes, and possibly ceases? I have found those relationships are special. Old friends are some of the best friends :) Those are the friends that know your past and still love you despite being in different stages in life! I love hearing when people are friends from elementary school or college for instance, that they have lasted 30 years or more?
MADE to CRAVE
Women are made to crave relationships, God put it in our nature. If we did not need to love and nurture, how would our children be cared for? We are wives and mothers doting on our loved ones. We are unlike men when it comes to relationships. The desire to be face to face or at least via phone is innate. Men are different, many can sit next to each other and still focus on the work they need to do on their computers. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen this first hand. But what family could not use help on big tasks for the home? That is where friends are a blessing. My husband has offered his expertise/gifts to others many times. "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:" 1 Peter 4:10 How great are we together? Is that what God had intended:
"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken." Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Letting others know you appreciate them, goes further than you can imagine. It is awesome to make someone smile and makes you smile as well!! Praying that this post has inspired you to treasure your friendships, phone a friend, and continue being a blessing to others!!!
