Night to Shine Recap

Our church recently held Tim Tebow's "Night to Shine" prom for those with Special Needs.  It was such a blessing seeing the joy and happiness on the guests faces.  As part of the paparazzi we were jazzed to see them walking by, wanting everyone to notice them with their new haircuts and updos, fancy clothes, etc.  We pulled out the red carpet, sit-down dinner, dj, dancing and so much more!

The guests' caregivers were blessed with food, band, movie, massages, etc as well!  They really enjoyed an evening where they could kick back and relax and be pampered.

Fox8 News covered the event:  http://fox8.com/2016/02/12/all-smiles-at-the-night-to-shine-prom-in-broadview-heights-for-teens-with-special-needs/

All in all we had 208 guests - wow!  The numbers changed, some no-shows, some walk-ins, but those who wanted/needed to be there, God made it possible even with the snowstorm.  A blessing for the volunteers, it snowed while we were there.  Volunteers number 518, astounding isn't it?  The guests and volunteers were treated to catered food that was donated, God was working in every way possible :)  The oldest guest was 89!  There were guests unable to walk, some that needed to be spoon-fed, blind, etc....they were loved on all evening by their "buddies" :)

Here is Cuyahoga Valley Church's official recap video:

Why did we want to volunteer?  First, my oldest really wanted to serve God's beautiful and blessed people and second, the Bible tells us:

"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the LEAST of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."  Matthew 25:40

When we have children, we understand that our child could have been one born with special needs.  It is amazing to interact with the guests as you realize that they are God's special people.  Their JOY is contagious!  So much excitement, such HUGE smiles.....There was such a range of special needs, some blind, some needing to be spoon fed, some unable to walk.  How much we take for granted?  We left with this Bible verse in our hearts:  "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."  Matthew 5:16  I really believe that those in attendance whether they realized it or not, felt all that was poured out on them.  What a blessing the Tim Tebow Foundation is, the church and all the hands and feet of the volunteers!  Something like this event is only possible with those who are willing To serve God by serving others and is the greatest form of charity, pure love of Christ.  Jesus Christ said:
"A new command I give you: Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another."  John 13:34

My oldest volunteered us to serve and I was so joyful that we were serving together.  We had friends join us and enjoyed sharing dinner with them and cheering the guests on.  We are looking forward to next year's "Night to Shine" and blessing everyone again!!!  I will share 2017's date :)
