Chess for Kids!

Dear Friends!

This is an encouraging note for those who want their children to exceed in critical and strategic thinking skills and those who have a passion for chess.  Our oldest has been playing for 5 years and is doing really well, earning trophies and even a few dollars!!  To do well in chess the student needs to be disciplined, challenged and persevere.  There is much training, knowledge and respect in the game of chess, more than I ever imagined!!!  The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.”  Luke 6:40

Chess is an exciting sport/game and it is thrilling to see the kids grow in their strategic knowledge and thinking skills.  This past year our chess player tied for 1st place at a tournament, taking home a trophy and helping the team take first place in their rated section!!!  "But all things should be done decently and in order."  1 Corinthians 14:40

Not only is chess beneficial for critical thinking skills, there are other benefits as well, such as earning college scholarship $$ for those who work diligently and stay the course.  What parent would not want their child(ren) to be able to choose a college of their choice or have money to help pay the expenses?  At certain tournaments internships are given out, we were also at a tournament where a high school student earned an internship to GE - wow!    "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."  Romans 8:28

It is not all about winning.  Chess is also learning about being a gracious winner in addition to a graceful loser.  Yes, soccer may be fun, dance is lovely and graceful, but the mind God gave us is a beautiful and wonderful thing!!  Many of the students in chess are from foreign countries, i.e. India, China, etc....other countries find value in chess and the life skills the game/sport provides.

"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going."  Ecclesiastes 9:10  If you have questions about getting your students involved in chess or having them play competitive chess in tournaments, please call me to set up a time to discuss, I would love to share our knowledge!!!

Joyfully,

Kim

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize?  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."  1 Corinthians 9:24-25
