Night to Shine - Special Needs

Greetings Friends!

Image result for night to shineWe are happy to share our church, Cuyahoga Valley Church, will be one of over 100 hosts in the US and other countries for Tim Tebow's "Night to Shine"!  This event is for teens (ages 12 and up) and adults with special needs.

**  This event is just as much for those with Special Needs as it is for their caregivers!

My oldest was excited to hear about the event and volunteered to serve, saying "she wants this to be the best night of their lives and wants to help make that happen!"  We love her heart!!!!

The Tim Tebow Foundation has a great passion for people with special needs, and in 2014 they launched “Night to Shine.” The vision was simple… work with churches around the country to provide an incredible prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs.
This past February, 44 churches and 15,000 volunteers came together on one night, celebrating 7,000 honored guests with special needs. This unforgettable prom night experience changed Valentine’s Day weekend from simply a celebration of love, to a celebration of God’s love, people with special needs and the value of life. This year we will continue expanding this ministry into a worldwide movement that allows people with special needs to shine, churches to shine, volunteers to shine, and most importantly, Christ to shine.

What will the guests enjoy????

The church will be decorated from the parking lot to downstairs and everything in between!!

A Reason, a Season or a Lifetime?

We need people in our lives that understand our complete selves.: People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime.  When we figure out which then we will know how to care for each person.  If it is for a reason, is it for them to help us or for us to help them?  I look at each person as how can I be a blessing to them?

I was talking to a mom this past week about friendships!  She was saying how her kids are becoming more independent with their friends and she was wanting to maintain the friends she has.  Some express a desire for friends that live closer to them.  Thinking about our situation and friendships.  We do not put a distance zone on our friendships.  Good, close true friends are hard to find and we try to nurture those relationships.

I am old school and really enjoy talking with friends on the phone to see how they are doing and appreciate when they return my messages with a returned phone call or call out of the blue to check on us :)  A phone call is really the best gift you can give to anyone!  When you can talk to a friend and never run out of things to talk about, that is a friendship to be cherished.  Words are so powerful and can be misconstrued in emails, you hear it happening more times than one would think?  What can it say to a friend when a phone call is returned with an email?

Who doesn't like to open the mail or email or receive a phone call that says "You're Invited"?  We all want to feel included, part of a group (no man is an island), no one likes to be left out or feel like they have been abandoned?  Everyone needs compassion and sensitivity.  We LOVE inviting others!!!!  It does not matter if it is a simple chess game, a hike or a tea party.  We try to include everyone, even birthday parties whether the kids have male or female friends, all are welcome :)  It is a blessing to celebrate others, just recently one of my friends turned the big 6-0 and to be included in her celebration was a blessing, she is such a sweet friend!  Celebrating each other and each other's children is a blessing!!!!  When you make time for someone it really brightens their day, lifting them up :)

Sometimes friends move, that does not mean the friendship ends.  We have friends out of state and though we do not see them as often as we did we still celebrate them, birthday cards, visiting, etc.  I love being able to mail them and cherish our phone conversations between everyday life!

**  We are unashamed to tell our friends we LOVE them....we are blessed by those who agree :)

When we meet someone, we do not know how long they will be in our lives.  Not every friendship is meant to last a lifetime, some are only for a reason or a season.  You never know what God's plans are or how long you will call someone "friend".  Over the years I have learned that friends come and go, and life goes on.  We make new friends, they have come and some have gone, it's the ones that remain that create that special place in the heart.
Friends are a gift from God, and only with the grace of God, mercy and forgiveness that friendships grow and prosper.  Just like a marriage it requires work, sometimes one supports the other and then the roles switch when needed.  I find the friends who generally stay are the ones who fellowship on a regular basis, it is so easy to drift apart if both do not make an effort?

Sometimes when a friend gets married or has children the dynamics of a friendship changes, and possibly ceases?  I have found those relationships are special.  Old friends are some of the best friends :)  Those are the friends that know your past and still love you despite being in different stages in life!  I love hearing when people are friends from elementary school or college for instance, that they have lasted 30 years or more?

Women are made to crave relationships, God put it in our nature.  If we did not need to love and nurture, how would our children be cared for?  We are wives and mothers doting on our loved ones.  We are unlike men when it comes to relationships.  The desire to be face to face or at least via phone is innate.  Men are different, many can sit next to each other and still focus on the work they need to do on their computers.  I cannot tell you how many times I have seen this first hand.  But what family could not use help on big tasks for the home?  That is where friends are a blessing.  My husband has offered his expertise/gifts to others many times.  "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:"  1 Peter 4:10  How great are we together?  Is that what God had intended:

"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken."  Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Letting others know you appreciate them, goes further than you can imagine.  It is awesome to make someone smile and makes you smile as well!!  Praying that this post has inspired you to treasure your friendships, phone a friend, and continue being a blessing to others!!!

Pondering and Praying to Inspire and Encourage

A friend of mine mentioned pondering and it really got me to thinking, or really pondering about things.  We as Moms, homeschool educators, wives, sisters, neighbors and on it goes....have many looking to us for guidance, support and nurturing.  God has called us to fill all these roles!  WOW!  God has faith in us and has called us to be diligent servants!!!

As God spoke to Mary, about being mother to His one and only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, "But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart."  Luke 2:19

  1. think about (something) carefully, especially before making a decision or reaching a conclusion.

We are to be in Him and helping others along our journey.  We all have our gifts and He instructs us to use them.

"They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share," 1 Timothy 6:18

We all ponder are we doing right by Him, by our husbands, children and peers?  There are times when I feel I could have done better, provided a better answer, prayed a little harder.  Pondering upon the past but looking to the future on how I can do better.  Pondering over the past year and all of the beautiful Moms I have been blessed with interacting with and blessing with educational support for their homeschooling curriculum through field trips and activities for their children.  After all that is why we homeschool right?  For the children, our children!  God has blessed us with the opportunity to homeschool them.  He layed the decision on our hearts and guided our way.  No matter when we made that decision it was through His grace.  Our Lord has given us each special gifts to use

From The Epistle to the Romans, the 6th Book in the New Testament:

2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
4 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,
5 so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.
7 If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;
8 if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
13 Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.
18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"says the Lord.
20 On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Image result for fellowshipOur pastor did an amazing sermon hitting each and every one of these points!!!

Whether in word, attitude or action, we are to love the enemy and one another.  We are all bruised reeds in one fashion or another, not knowing what the other is going God commands us to do all things in love, with grace, mercy and forgiveness.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God," Ephesians 2:8

He instructs us to build each other up, to be in fellowship with one another!  Encouraging and supporting through our trials and tribulations as homeschool moms.

"Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing."  1 Thessalonians 5:11

I always enjoy the company of friends and sharing hospitality in our home.   Every morning I awake and pray to God to give me strength for the day and keep me and my children humble, to be welcoming to all who God puts in our path.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  Jeremiah 29:11

The love of God first works IN you.....then the love of God works THROUGH you!  As each day closes I thank our Lord for what He has brought for that day.  A new face to greet, an encouraging word, a moment that brought a smile from a child.  Remembering that from the Lord of Lords and King of Kings all things are possible and that when things do not go as planned, He has our best interest at heart!!!

We are looking for interested families that would like to fellowship more frequently.  There are many activities our family partakes in that I do not post on my blog.  I would love to share our outside activities with you!  We look for events to supplement our education and they're usually FREE!!!!  For instance, we went to an amazing program about Quilts from WW I.  We are a family of diverse interests, including chess, so you will find opportunities for both girls and boys.  If you would like to include any specifics such as topics of interest, things that would be beneficial to your family, etc.  Opportunities may also include Moms nights, Bible study, Teas, etc.

To know God and make Him known through everything we do with our children and together.  Supporting and guiding families who have chosen to Homeschool their children.  Lifting each other up as God instructs, "Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."  Hebrews 10:25  "Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing." Thessalonians 5:11 We believe that each child and parent is perfectly and wonderfully made by Him!!!

If you would like to learn more about wonderful educational opportunities, please email me at to receive additional information.  Thank you and always blessed to serve :)
